Penney Adams, the proprietor of Steamboat Winery, offers a year’s worth of wine facts along with memorable wine moments in her new book For the Love of Wine. From how to catch all the flavors when you taste wine to interesting historical facts about wine production, this book offers a fun introduction to the amazing world of wines. Readers will be ready to try some new wines and to dominate at wine trivia night. It’s the perfect wine gift book for anyone exploring their love of wine.
With a lifelong affinity for wine, Penney previously owned a retail wine store, The Wine Gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina, that featured fine wine and art. She currently lives in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with her husband and two of her four boys. She established Steamboat Winery, LLC in 2017. Purchasing grapes from California gives her the ability to produce an exquisite wine in the skiing, fishing, and ranching community of Steamboat Springs.
Penney on working with SPARK Publications
“SPARK was integral in getting my book published. I had no idea how to get started and they walked me through every step and saw it to completion.”
Is there a particular moment that SPARKed your interest in writing a book?
My undergraduate degree is in English. I have always loved writing and have written a considerable amount of poetry. I handle all of our social media at Steamboat Winery, and while posting a year of wine facts, several people suggested I put them into a book. I knew I wanted to—someday. I like to stay busy, so when the COVID-19 pandemic happened and we were quarantined at home, I was looking for things to do and focused my energy on the book.
Now that your book is published, are there any goals or experiences you’re looking forward to?
I am anxious to see how the book is received by wine enthusiasts and the general population. I look forward to continuing the great progress at Steamboat Winery and selling more wine!
What surprises did you encounter on the road to writing and publishing the book?
When looking back at my life and writing down “memorable wine moments,” I realized how interwoven my life is with wine and how much I love the romance of wine. It has accompanied me through a myriad of meaningful moments.
What advice do you have for other authorpreneurs and aspiring writers?
It’s never too early to have a SPARK Publications consultation, so you complete the process in the most efficient way. Then set the time aside and do it!
Tell us about your future plans—what’s next for you?
I would like to write a sequel of additional wine facts, perhaps with a twist this time, like recipes with wine pairings, instead of “wine moments,” because I love to cook.
If you could broadcast two sentences to the entire world, what would they be?
The first is our motto at Steamboat Winery: “Savor the wine, savor the moments, and savor the memories.” To me, that means live life to the fullest, be grateful for your friends and family, and appreciate the simple things, like time spent together or a really nice glass of wine. And then, “Care for all others like you would like to be cared for.” It’s that simple.
