About the Author

Curtrina Pharr was born in Charlotte, N.C., in the mid-1980s and raised there during a time when the city experienced tremendous growth and became the second-largest financial center in the U.S. Curtrina was orphaned at age nine and homeless by age fifteen. Now a mother who is working her way through school, Curtrina has published her memoir, Confessions of an Abandoned Child to help kids, teens, and women by inspiring them to overcome situations of abuse and neglect.

What others are saying about Curtrina Pharr's story:

“And God forgives us all. May I be forgiven for having this child and her siblings living so close to me and not doing more about the ‘hell’ they lived through daily. Confessions of an Abandoned Child should be required reading for anyone who works with or knows low-income families, and that is all of us. This is but a mere glimpse of the many struggles our children deal with on a daily basis.” —Linda Williams, wife, mother, community leader, and business owner

“This must-read book is an eye-opening illustration of what is happening to far too many youth in our community. More people need to be aware of what is going on right in front of their eyes, so they can at least recognize the signs. Maybe then they will be more likely to help.” —Brennon D. Graham, executive director of The Relatives, Inc.
