UnLoaded is part memoir, part self-help book about the author’s struggle with addiction and his path to recovery. It’s an insightful look at how an all-American kid from a happy home ended up entangled in drugs and alcohol, and how it’s possible to overcome the past and become the best version of yourself.
What SPARKed your interest in writing a book?
I found myself at one of those proverbial crossroads of life, wondering, after close to 50 years of existence, what I would do when I grew up. A coworker/friend innocently responded, “You know, you should really write a book,” one day after I shared one of my stories. I had been told that many times before and had always held on to that notion. Her remark to me was the final push I needed at the right place with the right timing.
Tell us about a part of the writing/publishing process that was harder than you expected. How did SPARK Publications help you through this process?
I am not a patient person, so the time required caused me the most anxiety. However, this being a team project, there are many moving parts, and it takes precision to align them. SPARK Publications was always in communication and came through with the feedback and tasks to keep the ball rolling and the creative process fresh.
Tell us about a time when SPARK Publications went above and beyond to produce the best version of your book.
The SPARK Publications team has a gift for seeing one’s value. Their gift is uncanny and must be shared with the world; it’s their responsibility. They know your message, your purpose, and your value way before they become obvious to you. They present to you your inner greatness.
How will this experience and your book impact your career/business/life moving forward?
This topic will not just impact my life, but the subject matter can ultimately be life-saving. Directly aimed at addicts/-oholics, it is also beneficial for anyone looking for inspiration, motivation, and understanding. This will not only touch the readers, but it will also open many doors for me to speak and appear in person for those who need to hear this message.
What is one tip or piece of advice that you would give a business owner or thought leader who wants to write a book?
Be open-minded. There are many roads to the same destination. Trust trailblazers who have gone routes unfamiliar to you.
